Discover the basics of wheel throwing and hand-built ceramics in a relaxed, creative studio environment designed for adults. Over six sessions, students will learn foundational clay techniques, including throwing, slab building, trimming, surface decoration, and glazing, while creating functional and artistic pottery pieces. Perfect for beginners or anyone looking to reconnect with creativity through clay.

Join us at our newly outfitted ceramic studio, housed on the campus of our Education Center, for a six-session, adults-only, creative experience.
Here’s what you need to know:
Classes meet from 6:00–8:00 PM during the Monday - Friday Sessions, and 10:00 - 12:00 PM on Saturdays.
This course is designed for adults ages 21 +, complimentary alcohol will be provided (wine and beer), but feel free to BYO.
No experience is necessary — beginners are welcome.
All materials, tools, glazes, and firing are included in the cost of the course.
Students will learn both wheel-throwing and handbuilding techniques.
Please wear comfortable clothing that you don’t mind getting a little messy.
Closed-toe shoes are recommended in the studio.
Pottery is a process-based medium — pieces will need time to dry and be fired before they are ready for pickup.
Finished work will be available for pickup approximately 1–2 weeks after the course ends.
Due to limited class sizes and material preparation, registration fees are non-refundable.
Space is limited to 7 students per class to allow for individualized instruction.
Class / Session overview:
Session 1 — Introduction to Clay + Wheel Basics
Students will be introduced to the studio, clay preparation, and foundational wheel-throwing techniques, including centering and forming simple cylinders. We’ll also explore beginner handbuilding methods to create a small functional piece.
Session 2 — Form & Function
Continue developing wheel-throwing skills through bowls and functional forms while learning slab-building techniques and surface texture applications.
Session 3 — Trimming + Construction
Students will learn how to trim wheel-thrown pieces, refine forms, and attach handles. Handbuilding projects will focus on creating more intentional functional or sculptural work.
Session 4 — Surface Design & Decoration
Explore carving, texture, underglaze application, sgraffito, and decorative surface techniques to add personality and detail to finished pieces.
Session 5 — Glazing Techniques
Learn the fundamentals of glazing, including dipping, layering, brushwork, and glaze combinations, while finishing selected pottery pieces for final firing.
Session 6 — Final Studio Session
A relaxed final class focused on completing projects, additional wheel practice, finishing touches, and celebrating the work created throughout the course.
